Get Ready to Transition to Zoom Phone - Pre-transition Checklist

Confirm you have the App

All users: If you haven't logged into Zoom before, please do so as soon as possible. Your U-M phone number cannot be transitioned to U-M Zoom Phone without this step.

Softphone Users: Make sure the Zoom application is installed on the device you want to use for your U-M phone calls. (e.g. U-M provided laptop or desktop, personal cell phone, etc.) Zoom has to be open on the device you are using to receive calls.

Download Saved Voicemail

This step is OPTIONAL. U-M Zoom Phone offers a new voicemail service. Your voicemail box will be permanently deleted one week after your service is transitioned to U-M Zoom Phone. Make sure to review, delete and/or download any existing voicemails you may need for the future. Don't forget . . . most people received copies of their voicemail as emails originally.

Using Zoom Phone (with or without deskset)

All users: Regardless of whether you use Zoom Phone with a softphone only or with a deskset, it is important to familiarize yourself with Zoom Phone's features and benefits.

What to Expect on Thursday
  • You’ll receive an email confirming your transition, and relaying the steps for setting up your U-M Zoom Phone.
  • After you log into the Zoom desktop app, you should see the U-M Zoom Phone icon appear at the top of the Zoom application.

Softphone Only

Project-funded HEADSETS are available for users who have transitioned to softphone only.

Order Headset (Monday or Later)

If your phone number is being transitioned to Zoom Phone and you are not scheduled to receive a replacement deskset, you are eligible to receive a project-funded headset to use with your computer if you need one. The following links describe how to order a headset starting Monday of the week your number transitions.

Softphone + Deskset

Project-funded DESKSETS are available for users who have been assigned by their unit to receive a deskset.

Deskset Delivery

Desksets are delivered to individual office locations for people scheduled to receive a deskset as part of the transition to Zoom Phone. Your department is responsible for communicating delivery information to you.

Note: It is unnecessary to be present or unlock doors for the delivery.

Old desksets do not work after a number is transitioned to Zoom Phone. In the post-transition checklist, you will receive information about old deskset disposal.
