This document covers how to securely communicate a UMICH password that you obtained in the Sponsor System to a sponsored person or requester to ensure that only the intended recipient has access to the password. These instructions may also be of use for communicating other passwords securely when necessary.
MCommunity Sponsor System Support
The Sponsor System allows authorized U-M staff members to create online identities for university-affiliated individuals who do not receive uniqnames and online identities otherwise.
Sponsored individuals include conference attendees, contractors, incoming faculty, staff, or temporary employees who need access to U-M resources before the hiring process is complete, academic affiliates, and others.

This document describes how sponsorship administrators can use the Sponsor System to reset UMICH passwords for sponsored people with temporary uniqnames. Sponsored people with regular uniqnames plus UMIDs and those with temporary uniqnames can reset their own passwords via UMICH Account Management. People with regular uniqnames plus UMIDs may also contact the ITS Service Center to reset their passwords.

With the upgrade to the Sponsor System on June 24, 2023, business functions and processes remain largely the same. The user interface receives an updated look and feel, improved processing, better accessibility, and an improved Search/Match function to enhance the sponsorship process.
If you need to sponsor more than one person (with temporary uniqnames) for the same reason, you can upload the data about these individuals from a file to the Sponsor System instead of sponsoring each person separately. This document explains how.
