This document covers how to securely communicate a UMICH password that you obtained in the Sponsor System to a sponsored person or requester to ensure that only the intended recipient has access to the password. Sponsor System
The Sponsor System allows authorized U-M staff members to create online identities for university-affiliated individuals who do not receive uniqnames and online identities otherwise.
Sponsored individuals include conference attendees, contractors, incoming faculty, staff, or temporary employees who need access to U-M resources before the hiring process is complete, academic affiliates, and others.
This document provides an overview of the Sponsor System, with details about uniqname types, identity types, sponsorship lengths, minimum data requirements, sponsorship expiration handling and password resets. For step-by-step system use instructions, see Sponsor System Support.
This document describes how sponsorship administrators can use the Sponsor System to reset UMICH passwords for sponsored people with temporary uniqnames. Sponsored people with regular uniqnames plus UMIDs and those with temporary uniqnames can reset their own passwords via UMICH Account Management. People with regular uniqnames plus UMIDs may also contact the ITS Service Center to reset their passwords.
This document details the steps for using the Sponsor System to get a UMID, uniqname, and UMICH (Level-1) password for a person who needs access to U-M Computing services. This includes contractors, academic affiliates, or other university affiliates, as well as incoming faculty or staff (including temporary employees) who need computing accounts before their hire date.
This document details the steps for using the Sponsor System to get temporary uniqname and UMICH password for a person who needs access to U-M Computing services. This type of sponsorship is intended for Short-Term Guests a (for example, conference/program participants).
If you need to sponsor more than one person (with temporary uniqnames) for the same reason, you can upload the data about these individuals from a file to the Sponsor System instead of sponsoring each person separately. This document explains how.
