Overview:
On Great Lakes and Armis2, billing limits set the maximum billing capacity each Slurm account can use over specific periods—monthly, yearly, or one-time. These limits help faculty manage spending by pausing access when limits are reached until the next reset. Each mode specifies how limits are allocated, updated, and reset.
1. Monthly Limits
-
Reset Period: At the beginning of each month, billing limits are reset to the amount provided by the researcher, and job usage resets to zero.
-
Usage Management: Monthly usage resets helping ensure fair share access.
-
Limit Allocation: Limits are set to the requested monthly value based on spending limits provided by faculty admins.
2. Yearly Limits
-
Reset Period: Billing limits are reset at the start of the fiscal year on July 1st to the amount provided by the researcher.
-
Monthly Limit Update: Each month, the spending limit decreases by the amount used in the previous month, while job usage resets to zero, helping ensure fair share access .
-
Limit Allocation: At the beginning of each fiscal year, limits are set to the requested yearly amount provided by the researcher.
3. One-Time Limits
-
Reset Period: There is no reset for one-time limits; the fixed limit lasts for the lifetime of the account.
-
Monthly Limit Reduction: The one-time limit decreases monthly, based on the usage of the previous month.
-
Usage Reset: Each month, usage resets to zero to better enable fair share access for all users while staying within the one-time allocation.
