Registering Apple TV

Like other streaming devices, Apple TV needs to be registered to connect to UM network.

Requirements

To register a device you will need the following information:

  • Wireless MAC address of the Device
  • Building and Room number (for example, LSA 2210 Apple TV) 
  • The type of device (currently only Apple TV)   
  • The device name ( Include the BLDG and Room# when you configure the device name, for example  "LSA 2210 Apple TV").    

Follow the instructions to register the Apple TV device:

  1. Plug in the power cable from the Apple TV to the instructor podium.
  2. Turn on the AppleTV. You should see the AppleTV on the projector.
  3. Register Apple TV for campus wireless networks using MSetup. Use Building and Room number (e.g. LSA 2210 Apple TV)
  4. Using the AppleTV Remote, go to Settings-> Airplay
  5. Tab Airplay to turn it on. You can use the Remote to turn it on as well.
  6. Select to ‘Clear the Password’ then select to ‘Set the Password’.
  7. Enter a password that you will use to control access to AppleTV. 
NOTE: This is an important and required step to prevent students from taking control of the AppleTV during your presentation.

    8. Press the Menu button on the Remote to return to the main menu. 

    9. Select Settings-> General-> Note the Name associated with your AppleTV. You will need the name of the device when you connect your device.
