Departments are asked to use their discretion to data-sanitize phones that carry a significant risk of disclosing sensitive institutional or personal data.
Sanitizing Cisco VoIP phones
- Most Voice over IP (VoIP) phones at U-M are Cisco-brand, and most Cisco phones are VoIP; all should be data-sanitized.
- Data-sanitize a Cisco VoIP phone by performing a factory reset. This requires plugging the phone into a powered Ethernet jack and then following a series of key strokes as described in the following link:
List of Cisco IP phone models and instructions for factory-resetting them.
Sanitizing other devices
- For other types of devices capable of storing data, refer to manufacturer's documentation for instructions for factory resetting the device.
