Recording & Sharing Your Name in NameCoach

NameCoach is a web-based tool that allows users to record, listen to, and learn names. After you've recorded your name pronunciation, you can share your recorded name with others by adding it to your email signature.

NOTE: To use NameCoach, U-M users cannot log in directly to the NameCoach website using UMICH login credentials. To ensure that you are in the U-M domain, use the NameCoach Dashboard login link below to log in using your UMICH (Level-1) credentials.

Record Your Name in NameCoach

  1. Log in to your NameCoach Dashboard.

  2. If you have already recorded your name pronunciation, it will appear in a list of “Your Recordings.” Continue to Share Your NameCoach Recording.

    If you have not recorded your name pronunciation, you will see the new recording page. Continue to the next step:

  3. Select the method you wish to use to record your name: Phone, Web Recorder, or Uploader.

    Phone

    1. Enter your telephone number, beginning with the area code, in the provided field. (e.g. 734-764-1871)

    2. Click the Call me now! button.

    3. When NameCoach calls, follow the prompts to record your name.

    4. Hang up.

    Web Recorder

    1. Click the Record button.

    2. Speak your name. When finished, click the Stop button.

    3. Click the Play button to hear your recording. Click Record Again if you're not happy with the recording.

    Uploader

    1. Locate the audio file on your computer and drag it into the Drag a file here box, or click Browse for file to locate the file that way.

  4. Optional: You may also enter your preferred pronouns, Full name or your name as you would like it said/announced, and the Phonetic spelling of your name on this page. Refer to the Phonetic Spelling Guide for help.

  5. Click the Submit button.
