Lighthouse User Guide

NOTICE: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Duo is still required to access the cluster via Open OnDemand. DO NOT delete your Duo application if you wish to continue to use SSH or the terminal in Open OnDemand.

If you are new to HPC, please ensure you have a device enrolled in Duo for MFA. Follow the steps in this knowledge article to enroll your device.

The Lighthouse cluster supports researchers with grants that require the purchase of computing hardware. Lighthouse allows researchers to place their own hardware within the ARC HPC Slurm environment. It utilizes Slurm as its workload manager, enabling users to work interactively or submit batch jobs.

To access this cluster, you must have a login and a Slurm account to submit jobs.

There are three ways to interact with this cluster:

  • Open OnDemand  a web-based portal designed primarily for interactive work, with applications for Jupyter Notebooks, R Studio, Matlab, and more
  • Command Line — Linux-based login nodes, where you can manage your files, submit and monitor your jobs
  • Globus transfer — a high speed  file transfer and management service
  • Slurm User Guide - a guide to how the cluster manages jobs
