OARS: RDA (Remote Data Access) Requests

This document details the steps for using the OARS System Request option to request a new RDA or to modify or delete an existing RDA.

Access the Online Access Request System (OARS).

Create New RDA

  1. Click the System Request link located below the Request and In Progress boxes.
  2. Use the default of Create New in the drop-down list in the System ID Information heading bar.
  3. Enter the appropriate values in the Primary Contact, Secondary Contact, and Department ID fields.
  4. Select RDA in the Request Type field.
  5. Select the appropriate value in the Source System field to route your request to the appropriate area for data usage approval.
    Note: Common Source Systems are: CS – Campus Solutions for CSProd, DW – Data Warehouse for DWProd, Fin – Financials for Finprod, and HCM – Human Capital Management for HCMProd.
  6. Select the appropriate value in the Environment field.
  7. If you know the name of the database where you are requesting access, enter it in the Database Name field.
  8. If you require more than 20 concurrent sessions for the RDA, enter the amount in the Concurrent Connections field.
  9. Select the appropriate value in the RDA Type drop-down list.
    Note: Requests from non-ITS departments typically are RMT (Remote) and requests for database links between ITS databases are LNK (Link).
  10. Click the Add Table button for each database object required and:
    • Enter the correct spelling of the table in the Table Name field. Do not use abbreviations, (for example, enter PS_JOB, not JOB). The System Request option will track the access granted to be changed in future requests.
    • If the request is for the DW – Data Warehouse or EDW – Next Gen Data Warehouse, enter the appropriate value in the Schema (Optional) field.
    • If the request is for a database link between ITS databases (RDA Type LNK), enter the synonym you require for each database object requested in the Synonym (Optional) field.
    • Select the permissions you require for each database object requested in the Permissions field.
  11. Enter a brief description of the purpose for the RDA in the Purpose for ID field.
  12. Enter any additional comments in the Request Comments field.
  13. Click Submit for Authorization to submit the request for approval, or click Save to save to request to be completed and submitted later.

Modify Existing RDA

  1. Click the System Request link located below the Request and In Progress boxes.
  2. Select Modify Existing from the drop-down list in the System ID Information heading bar.
  3. Use the System ID Username… drop-down list to search for and select the userid you want to modify or delete.
  4. If necessary, update the Primary Contact and/or Secondary Contact fields.
  5. Click the Add Table button for each database object you want to add and:
    • Enter the correct spelling of the table in the Table Name field. Do not use abbreviations, (for example, enter PS_JOB, not JOB). The System Request option will track the access granted to be changed in future requests.
    • If the request is for the DW – Data Warehouse or EDW – Next Gen Data Warehouse, enter the appropriate value in the Schema (Optional) field.
    • If you are adding a database link between ITS databases (RDA Type LNK), enter the synonym you require for each database object requested in the Synonym (Optional) field.
    • Select the permissions you require for each database object requested in the Permissions field.
  6. Enter any additional comments in the Request Comments field.
  7. Click Submit for Authorization to submit the request for approval, or click Save to save to request to be completed and submitted later.
