- Download the latest Windows TSM client bundle from the IBM website
- Double click the bundle to unzip in the current directory. Once completed, open the TSMClient directory and run spinstall.exe to install the TSM client. During the install, select the Typical setup type.
- You can reach the management UI by running Start > IBM Storage Protect > Backup-Archive GUI. When first opening the UI, a wizard guides you through the configuration. Use the values below:
- If you have a previous TSM installation you wish to restore, you may provide the previous configuration file. Otherwise, select 'Create a new options file'
- Node name: name of the VM. This must match the server name in the MiServer Welcome email
- Communication method: TCP/IP
- Server address: scrooge.dsc.umich.edu
- Port number: 1520
- Recommended include/exclude list: accept the defaults, this can be edited later
- Common file exclusion selection: accept the defaults, this can be edited later
- Domain for Backup, Backup type: select incremental and check the box to “Back up all local file systems”
- Confirm and Apply
- A login prompt will be displayed:
- Node Admin id: server name as displayed in the MiServer Welcome email
- Password: [server name] + [UM Group Email without the @umich.edu]. An example is provided in the MiServer Welcome email
- The password must be changed at this time. Provide a secure password and store it for your records
- Once the installer succeeds, the service is ready to use
- A configuration file is created “C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsm.opt” which can be edited to modify the include/exclude files and file exclusions (optional). Some examples are listed below
- Backup logs are located in C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsmsched.log
- General TSM failure logs are located in C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsmerror.log
Create a Scheduled Backup
- To enable scheduled backups according to your requested MiServer backup time, open Backup-Archive GUI
- Click Utilities > Setup Wizard, then provide the TSM password
- Check the box 'Help me configure the Client Scheduler' and use the values below:
- Select 'Install a new or additional scheduler'
- Accept the default scheduler name, and check the box to 'Use the client acceptor the manage the scheduler'
- Accept the default acceptor name
- Accept the default option file name and location
- Accept the default port number
- Enter the credentials (node name and password), and check the box to 'Contact the IBM Storage Protect Server to validate password'
- Select 'the System account', and select the option to start the service 'Automatically when Windows boots'
- Accept the default Log files
- Choose yes to 'start the service upon completion of this wizard'
Perform Manual Backup/Restore
- Run Start > IBM Storage Protect > Backup-Archive GUI and provide node admin ID and password
- Backup:
- Expand [server name] > Local > [your local domain] and select the directories for which you will be creating a backup. Or, select Local to create a file backup for all folders. Then Click Backup.
- Click Report to view backup progress
- Restore:
- Expand [server name] > File Level > [your local domain], and navigate the folder structures to locate your lost file or directory. Select everything you wish to restore, then click Restore.
- Provide a location to which you will restore the files/directory - select the original location, or provide a destination. Then click Restore.
- Click Report to view restore progress
Remove MiBackup
- Launch the command prompt
- Change the working directory to “C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient”
- Run the following command to remove the TSM Central Scheduler Service: dsmcutil remove /name:"TSM Central Scheduler Service" /node:<servername>
- Run the following command to remove the TSM Client Acceptor service: dsmcutil remove /name:"TSM Client Acceptor"
- Go to the Windows control panel and open Programs and Features,
- Find IBM Storage Protect JVM and select it then click the Uninstall button
- Find IBM Storage Protect Client and select it then click the Uninstall button
