Digital Signage: Configure Emergency Alerts

Overview

At the University of Michigan, emergency alerts are required as part of the Service Level Expectations (SLE) of using the Digital Signage service with ITS.

Emergency alerts on digital signs at the University of Michigan are controlled by the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) and are considered a “Level 1” alert. These types of emergencies are classified as any event that could threaten the safety or security of individuals on campus. Examples include tornado warnings, gas leaks, fires, armed attacker and chemical spills. When a Level 1 alert is issued, digital signs are completely taken over with information regarding the incident.

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Expand EmergencyAlertChannels in the Network Overview.

  2. Drag-and-drop the applicable alerts feed onto your sign.
    • AlertsLandscape for landscape layout.
    • AlertsPortrait for portrait layout.

    Note If desired, you can expand Test Channels and drag-and-drop a test alerts feed onto your sign and preview it. The test alerts feed will "ping" your sign once per minute with an emergency alert. Delete the test alerts feed from your sign when you are finished testing.
