The following chart provides you with a comparison of how frequently used MCommunity group features and functionalities behave today and how they will behave after the MCommunity Transformation project is complete.

APIs Interface through the directory of APIs

New API Design that is no longer hosted in the directory of APIs. 

*This feature will be available in the future. Current APIs will continue to work.

MCommunity API users will need to adopt the new API process when available. 

Group Moderators through API or LDAP Ability to access Group Moderators through API and LDAP. Moderators may still be accessed but will no longer be used for mail delivery. They are being replaced by umichPermittedSender and umichReceiveDisallowedMessages. These attributes will be available read-only to owners only in LDAP.

Auto Reply Message Not currently available.  Auto reply option available that includes the ability to set Start and End dates. 

No action needed at this time.

Start/End date can be set through Auto Reply when appropriate. 

Do not Spam option Automatically turned on for all new members and for all new MCommunity Groups. This service uses published lists from a vendor to identify such mail, which is then blocked. Blocked mail is rejected and not accepted for delivery. The option for individuals to turn off Do not Spam will no longer be available. Anyone who wishes to turn this option off will need to contact the ITS Service Center

All Groups Search  Search MCommunity Groups based on being owned by the same individual An unauthorized individual can search on all Groups owned by a particular individual.  Function only available to MCommunity Administrators

Group:

  • Telephone Number
  • Facsimile Number
  • UMICH Postal Address
Specific fields are available today for a Group telephone number, facsimile number, and UMICH postal address.  Not available. This information can be added to the Description field if needed.

Group owners can manually move this information to the Description field if needed. There is no data migration available for these fields. 

Email Messages sent to only Group Moderators in a moderated MCommunity group.  Currently, messages from non-permitted senders are sent to all Group moderators and appear as messages sent to the entire Group. There is no indication only group moderators received the email. 

Only people designated as "Receives Disallowed Messages" will receive emails from non-permitted senders. Emails will include a preface that the email is being received only by the designated individuals and may be forwarded to the entire group if appropriate. 

If no Receives Disallowed Messages individuals have been designated, the disallowed message will bounce back to the sender.

Simplified Workflows Several screens for Group membership and settings.

Group options are displayed on the same screen.
